When it comes to deleting files from an SSD (Solid-State Drive), many people think that formatting the drive is enough. But that’s not true. Formatting and wiping are very different processes , and only one of them truly removes your data forever. If you’re upgrading, selling, or recycling your SSD, it’s important to understand these differences so your private information stays safe. What Is SSD Formatting? Formatting an SSD simply prepares the drive for new use. It erases the file directory so the system no longer “sees” your files — but the actual data still exists on the drive until it’s overwritten by new information. There are two main types of formatting: Quick Format: Deletes the file list but keeps the actual data. It’s fast but not secure.
